Here we go again, it’s that time during the pregnancy (26 to 28 weeks) where we have to test to see if I have gestational diabetes. This is done by doing a glucose screening which basically means I go into a pathology center and drink a glucose drink and then 1 hour later I have a blood test to check to see how my body processes the glucose. If I have high results (that if you will remember I did for my first pregnancy with Addison) I will need to undergo the 2 hour Glucose Tolerance Test. It is not a very pleasant thing to have to do, however my main issue is what to do with Addison if I have to do this test!
Today I drove to Mum’s (Nanny’s) house and she came with me so that she could just watch Addi while I was having the blood test done. We went to go to the pathology collection center at the Hyperdome, but they had misplaced the key to the fridge where the drink was kept!!! So our plans went out the window and meant we had to drive to a medical center close by (thankfully) and have the test done there.
It was very frustrating as we had planned to go in, have the drink then walk around the shops for the hour and have the blood test which would have been very simple if we could have done the screening at the Hyperdome. But instead we had to get in the car, drive there and back to the Hyperdome and then drive back before the hour was up to have the blood test done.
Instead of stuffing Addi around mum just walked around the shops with him while I drove to QML and had the blood test done. What a drama!! Especially considering I had called them only 1 hour prior to check their hours etc and they knew I would be coming in! She some how got the idea in her head that I said I was coming Friday…all I can think is that she took me saying “I’m 27 weeks on Friday” as I was coming then. Oh well, now we just have to hope I don’t have to do the second test! If I do I will be doing it at my regular QML pathology as I ended up with a huge bruise on my arm as she struggled to take my blood! Did I mention…What a DRAMA!!!
