This little rotter of mine is determined to take as long as possible to roll over. He get’s so close and then rolls back. I’ve been so excited that many times that he was going to do it and then nothing.
Today when I was taking his 5 month photos he was really getting into it and I thought.. here we go, we are finally going to do it. But nope, once more I was disappointed. He’ll get there eventually.
It does unfortunately take a little longer when you have bubs that aren’t a fan of being on their tummy. It took Addi a long time too and likewise for the crawling. My friend’s little one just loves being on his tummy and is already crawling at the tender age of 6 months (actually started a little earlier than that I believe – his Mummy really wishes he would slow down already!! She was hoping for a couple more months at least before she had two boys on the move). So it sure does make a difference to hitting those milestones. If having one child has taught me anything, it’s that they get there eventually and it really doesn’t matter when. It all evens out in the long run.
I think with your first baby you are so anxious about them hitting those milestones and just can’t wait for it to happen. But with your second, you are much more relaxed and know that it’s not the be all and end all. With your first, everything always seems like a competition, however you soon learn that who does what first makes no difference (as long as they are showing the normal signs of trying etc – we have to remember that these milestones can be early indicators for other health problems, so by no means am I saying to ignore the situation).
I’ll tell you what, it was hard to not just give him a little nudge the rest of the way over!! At least he has the right idea, he’s got his legs up and is swinging his body. Just a little bit more and he will do it. There will be no stopping him then!
