During our mini holiday (which I’m not sure it can really be called that since we are holidaying in the place we live! But anyway!!) we decided to take the kids to the Currumbin Bird Sanctuary. (I might also add that I felt like death warmed up for this entire holiday, pregnant and a hell of a cold is not a good mix). It was quite an adventure. I don’t believe I had visited the bird sanctuary since I was a kid so I really didn’t know what to expect.
It was very much like your typical zoo but of course with lots of birds! I knew that Addison would love it as he had enjoyed seeing the birds at the Cairns zoo in the past. Preston was his typical handful self. You really couldn’t get two brothers that are as chalk and cheese as these two! Addi stands back with caution while Prez runs head strong into anything and everything. The kangaroos were the perfect example of Preston’s dare devil personality. With no hesitation he had to pat and touch them. Poking and hitting (his idea of patting) the roos with no fear. Meanwhile we are trying to get a family photo and he decides he hasn’t had enough of patting them and runs off to another. Pregnant Mummy swiftly (or as swiftly as you can when pregnant) runs after him, all caught on camera.
He also demanded to walk most of the way (screaming when he had to go back in the pram) or when he was in the pram, turn around and watch where we were going instead. Despite this he really did enjoy it. I think his favourite animal apart from the kangaroos would be the dingos! Now I can’t say I’ve ever seen a dingo before, and they were impressive. They were quite worked up and really put on a show. Howling away, Prez decided to join in. We ended up buying him a toy dingo to remember his time at the bird sanctuary.
We had a great day, you couldn’t wipe the smile from Addison’s face. He loved the birds, and bought a toy rainbow lorikeet. We were just about to leave when we were watching the birds all fly over. What should happen but a bird pooed on me!!! How nasty! Of all the things to happen and right as we were leaving. I was not impressed, but it sure does make a funny story and really made Addison’s day. Even now he will talk about the bird that poo pooed on Mummy!!! Glad I could be entertaining for him.
