As you all know I like to do arts and crafts with Addison, but it is often hard to come up with things that he can actually participate in. Most of the time it is Addi picking the colours of things, such as the eyes that we stick on one of his pom pom crafts.
Today I decided that we were going to dye some macaroni to make a necklace. My thoughts were I could teach him colours and maybe patterns, plus of course have some fun along the way.
We started out by dyeing the macaroni three different colours. To do this we simply used food colouring in some water. I got Addi to use a dropper to put the food colouring into three glasses of water. We did blue, red and green but you could do any colours you like. Then he put some macaroni into each of the glasses, left it sit for a little bit then I carefully spooned it out onto a piece of baking paper on a tray.
Addi and I left the tray in the sun to dry before bringing it in to make our necklace. The macaroni was now nice and bright blue, red and green, ready to make into a necklace. We used string to thread our necklace, it was a little tricky so Mummy helped with this part. Mummy did her best to try and teach Addi patterns but he wasn’t quite there yet. He was however very good at handing Mummy the correct colour when asked.
I really wasn’t sure if he would want to wear it, but turns out he was very proud of his creation and loved wearing it. Mummy was even allowed a turn at wearing the finished macaroni necklace!
