The planning for this party was months ahead of time and I’d be lying if I said I didn’t enjoy every minute of it, because you all know I love a good party. And this theme was right up my alley. It tied together an idea I have had for years with my little gentlemen, perfect for a little boy’s first birthday.
From experience I knew that having a party in the park was not the easiest. As far as set up goes it can be challenging (especially when you go to as much detail as I do). But unfortunately the size of our house does not allow for large parties and therefore I was left with no other option. I of course picked a park that was close (anything too far would be crazy with the amount of stuff to transport).
I know the time it takes to set up these sorts of parties and when things are against you it adds pressure. The weather was typically sketchy and my worst nightmare happened….. wind, cyclonic (or what felt like it) wind! Now you would think, oh what’s a bit of wind really going to matter. Well until you have tried to decorate, with table cloths flying about and every single decoration and prop trying to take flight do not dismiss wind as being a massive problem. With the help of my mum and dad we managed to get the party set up. And in true Melissa fashion it looked lovely.
Generally I have a plan, a very detailed plan of how I want things to look. This time, I winged it! I set the food and drinks table up there on the spot. It was a little stressful. Some things I had hoped to do I couldn’t due to them trying to relocate to a new state via airspace. Overall I loved how it turned out. I didn’t really get to take too many photos of the food table, hubby whipped the camera out for me and took some snaps.
There turned out to be far less guests than originally expected (pretty much everyone invited couldn’t make it), so annoyingly we could have had it at home after all. But I’m so thankful to everyone that could come, we sure did have a blast and the kids seemed to love it all. Have I mentioned I love parties!
So here are the pics from the day, Jasper’s big FIRST birthday party. And also, our first family photo of all 5 of us since his birth!!!!
