(Monday 19/11/12: By now you have probably guessed that we have had baby Squiggle arrive into the world, hence the massive delay in updating the blog. Here it is, step by step, the best that I can remember.)
After my last appointment with Dr Bopp we once again discussed the option of inducing labour. Although it wasn’t what I had wanted or planned for this time it was suggested I had a serious conversation about the idea with Charles to work out if it was best for our family and our baby’s delivery. The main reason that Dr Bopp had been suggesting it was that he was going to be away for the week following my due date and this would mean I would just have random doctors that I had never meet take care of me following the birth of our baby. It was this that was making me seriously consider the idea and looking at the positives of having my OB deliver and look after me in the days that would follow.
Induction was definitely never something that I had been keen on. I wanted the excitement that came from a natural labour but if induction meant the best thing for the baby that was of course the number one priority. It was for this reason that after a long hard think about it over a weekend that Charles and I decided to make our tentative appointment a solid one, scheduling induction for Wednesday the 7th November at Pindara Private Hospital with my OB.
After making the phone call to Dr Bopp’s office on Monday to confirm the appointment he was to call me back and discuss what would happen next. I was so nervous about the idea, but after a little prayer and leaving it in God’s hands I knew he would look after us all. I couldn’t worry about what would happen, I just had to focus on the fact that I would be seeing my baby boy on Wednesday. Dr Bopp let me know that I was to go to the hospital and check into the maternity ward at 6.30 am Wednesday morning and he would come by around 7 am once I was settled into the birthing suite, at which point he would use the gel to get labour started.
We decided not to tell anyone about the appointment so that there was still an element of surprise for everyone when squiggle was born. The only people that of course were in on the plan was Nanny and Poppy as they would be taking care of Addison while I was in labour. This was so hard not telling anyone about it as I was very nervous and unsure about what to expect having gone naturally the first time. I decided to speak to a close friend about it that had been very supportive for my entire pregnancy. She made me feel much better and put my mind at ease that I was doing the right thing.
